Has anyone had any real success using either one? Any tips on how to make either service more profitable?

Google AdWords rock, I had a very good experience with AdWords to give a start boost to my blog and also to sell certain products later. Not that sure about AdCenter.
One of the things that I hate about MS and Yahoo is that their services do not span beyond North America when it comes to online advertising. They do not accept publishers from othere parts of the world and due to this the reach is limited. Go for AdWords!

PPC can be a great tool when you use it correctly.
you need to get the correct words for your services / products. Web visitors click banners, but the real deal is turning web visitors to web buyers.
you can start with this article to see differences between Google and Bing (PPC differences)
