Long story short: graduated May 2006 with a BBA, majored in human resources management. CompTIA A+, Network+, Security+ certified. Collegiate honor society member, Eagle Scout. Been looking for a job since May 2006. If you get really generous with what constitutes an interview, I might have had 5, after submitting at least an easy 2500 applications and resumes. I’ve never had a job with which to establish a bad reputation. Also just found out I’m not even eligible to serve in the military. Now, when I submit an application, I get an automated rejection letter, timestamped less than 1 minute later. My resume/applications are not being looked at anymore.
What do I do? How do I get a job? I’ve tried applying online, following up in email, phone, going in person without being a pest. It doesn’t work. How do I find out if someone else is being confused with me and thus preventing me from getting work? I’m out of options.
To clarify, I am applying for entry-level positions, looking for pay in the $30,000/year range. My resume has been reviewed by at least a dozen people that have been working for decades each and approved by all of them in its current form. I have sent in applications and resumes to staffing agencies and similar companies that are supposed to place people and, across the board, I never hear anything from them. The resume has no grammar or spelling errors and the factual information in it is 100% accurate. I have no work history yet.
I have also tried applying to retail and part-time positions. They are the ones I get the fastest rejections from. Speaking to a few people at places I haven’t applied to, they’ve said I have too much education and retail places want younger people (high school age) that require few hours and even less pay, even when I’ve stated I can accept what they are offering.
I’ve been painted into a corner. No experience, no way to get it either.
