Question by james b: My former employer wants to hire me back, should I accept the offer?
The Salary would be 6 figures, about a 40% increase from my current level. Also, the travel and responsibility would be greater than my current job entails. I have a lot of flexibility with my current employer they are good people, although, I feel a bit insecure about our industry because the niche that our company fills seems to be dwindling as the industry consolidates. I have virtually been doing nothing over this past year, but my current employer continues to pay me. Communication with head office has been virtually nil since my mentor passed away last December. Recently, the communications black out finally ended, when I was informed that a company that we distribute for has been sold to a bigger company, and we are finally going to get some real R&D data to help us market their great products, plus we have some new products coming down the pipe although they will be commodities, so big volumes will have to flow before I can make commission. Commission thats been another issue, I haven’t recieved a single commission since I went to work for my current employer because I haven’t managed to break through the commission ceiling, and because of the current industry environment it is highly unlikely I will do so in future. I have two boys that I like to be home for, but this job will take me away from them much more, my current employee places value on family, my old employer.. everyone gets divorced.
